Since 1984
Om Prakash Verma opened Akshar with a hand-fed treadle press and a box of metal type. His son Alok brought in offset in 1998, and his granddaughter Pooja runs the design desk and the digital presses today. Twelve people work here, and most have been here longer than ten years.
In exam season we print through the night for Kota's coaching classes. In wedding season we print the cards. In between, the bill books keep half the bazaar running.
“Four hundred wedding cards, and they spotted that my uncle's name was spelt two ways before it went to print.”
“Our class notes for 2,000 students, every Monday, for six years. Not one Monday missed.”
“I sent a photo of my father's old visiting card. The new one looks like it, only better.”
